Silverado 1500 vs Ram 1500: Performance

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 PerformanceIn terms of what’s under the hood, the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the 2021 Ram 1500 are very similar. The Ram 1500 offers five engines to choose from, including a couple V8 options as well as a diesel engine that provides up to an EPA-estimated 33 highway MPG.

The Silverado offers a similar lineup but with one extra engine option. As with the diesel engine of the Ram, you’ll get an available turbo-diesel engine with the Chevy. Enjoy up to an EPA-estimated 23 city/33 highway MPG with the Duramax® 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine of the Silverado.

Even with this impressive top fuel economy, though, the Silverado can still take you far with its large fuel tank. Combine the available 28.3-gallon tank of the Silverado and the available Duramax® 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine, and you’ll be able to venture up to 726 miles on just one tank.

Silverado 1500 vs Ram 1500: Towing Capability

When you’re considering which pickup truck to get, towing capability is probably at the top of your list of priorities. As far as muscle goes, both the Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500 pack some heat.

When properly equipped, the Chevy Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds of trailer weight. The Ram 1500, on the other hand, can tow up to 12,750 pounds of trailer weight when properly equipped. While the difference is small, it’ll be noticeable on heavy projects.

You’ll also note that one of the engine options of the Ram 1500 is a Supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 engine making a whopping 702 horsepower. Though this spec is impressive on paper, its bark is far more impressive than its bite.

This 700+ horsepower does nothing in terms of improving the towing capacity of the Ram. It still loses out to the Silverado when it comes to towing even with this available engine under the hood.

Silverado 1500 vs Ram 1500: Technology Features

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Interior TechnologyInfotainment is a top priority for truck shoppers nowadays. Both the 2021 Silverado and the 2021 Ram 1500 provide you with some of the industry’s leading technology features, including:

  • Available Wi-Fi® Hotspot connectivity for working on the go.
  • Available Wireless Charging to keep your devices juiced up on the go.
  • Available navigation.

The Ram does have one leg up on the Silverado with its available 12-inch touchscreen display, but this model falls short when it comes to standard options. You won’t find one quite that big in the Silverado, but is it really worth it?

If you don’t want to rack up your monthly car payments for the Ram 1500 by upgrading to one of the highest trims that has this system, you’ll be stuck with a standard 5-inch display. Not only does this display lack touchscreen capability, it also doesn’t come with smartphone integration.

Compare this to the standard 7-inch touchscreen display that the Silverado 1500 has to offer. With this standard system, you’ll get Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ starting from the base trim to keep you in touch and on track every step of your journey.

Extra Tech of the Silverado 1500

On the 7- or 8-inch touchscreen display of the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System, you’ll be able to access a variety of different available cameras to see every side of your truck. Opt for up to 15 available camera views—more camera views than any of the Chevy competitors—including four hitch views, six available driving views, and five available parking views.

The Silverado also has a segment-first available Advanced Trailering System with a segment-first myChevrolet Mobile App with Trailering. This system anticipates every need you’ll have while towing with predeparture checklists, trailer lighting diagnostics, trailer tire pressure monitoring, and more.

The Ram 1500 doesn’t even offer half the number of camera views.

Silverado 1500 vs Ram 1500: Comfort & Convenience

Whether you’re spending long hours on the worksite or venturing out on an epic multi-day adventure, comfort is key. The Silverado and the Ram both give you several cab options to choose from, with the largest offering seating for up to six passengers.

When comparing the dimensions of these two large cabs, though, you’ll find that the Ram highly favors back-seat passengers, leaving taller front-seat passengers slightly cramped:

Maximum 1st-Row Legroom

44.5 in.

40.9 in.

Maximum 2nd-Row Legroom

43.4 in.

45.2 in.

Additionally, you won’t have to sacrifice any of your legroom in the Chevy thanks to its innovative in-cabin storage options. Store lunchboxes, overnight bags, toolboxes, and more in the two available segment-first rear-seatback storage compartments or in the rear underseat storage area.

The Ram gives you available in-floor storage as well but doesn’t quite make the most of every available storage option like the Chevrolet.
