Local Spotlight: Tech Corps

Computer Science

Now more than ever, technology is an integral part of our lives. As it continues to evolve and grow, so does the need for computer science education. Tech Corps was founded to address this need from the ground up. Check out this local spotlight to learn more about how they’re doing that!

Why Computer Science Matters

Kids Computer Education The obvious answer to this question is that tech is all around us. It’s largely how we stay connected with our loved ones; it plays a huge role in how we create the things we need and use every day; it’s even integral in terms of our eating habits.

While that may be true, it’s still vastly underrepresented as a viable career opportunity for today’s students. This is where Tech Corps comes in! This organization was founded on the belief that computer science education isn’t just about learning how to use a computer—it’s about “computational thinking, problem solving, and creativity.”

This organization operates on the passion of achieving two main goals: developing helpful technology programs and showing K-12 students the ropes so they can aspire to do the same thing.

Their Enormous Impact

In the last decade, this organization has made a huge impact on their community. They’ve worked almost 12,000 students and 1,700 volunteers to make a difference in the tech realm. This program gives students the opportunity to connect the tech they know and love—like smartphones and laptop programs—to potential career and educational pathways.

By design, this organization is multi-beneficial. It not only does this program provide the computer science education that future generations need—it also gives the tech professionals of today the opportunity to share and sharpen their expertise through the art of teaching.
