Bolt EV vs LEAF: Range & Charging Options

Simply put, the 2021 Chevy Bolt EV can take your farther. On a single full charge, the Chevy Bolt can take you up to an EPA-estimated 259 miles of range no matter which configuration you choose.

The 2021 Nissan LEAF, on the other hand, can’t live up to the standards of Chevy with either of its powertrain options. With the standard 40 kWh battery, you’ll get an EPA-estimated 149 miles of range while the available 62 kWh battery provides an EPA-estimated 226 miles of range.

According to Bestplaces.net, the average commute for those living near Columbus is roughly 20 minutes, or around 20 miles, one way. If you commute five days a week, that averages out to about 200 miles a week commuting. Conquer your work week on one single charge with the Chevy Bolt EV. You’ll need to plan ahead with the Nissan LEAF, however.

Chevy vs Nissan: Cabin Comfort & Space

The 2021 Chevy Bolt EV and the Nissan LEAF are both considered compact SUVs, but the Bolt goes above and beyond the call of duty for this class with these cabin dimensions:

Chevy Bolt

Nissan LEAF

Total Passenger Volume

94.4 cu. ft.

92.4 cu. ft.

1st-Row Legroom

41.6 in.

42.1 in.

2nd-Row Legroom

36.5 in.

33.5 in.

Maximum Cargo Space

56.6 cu. ft.

30 cu. ft.

As you can see, the only area in which the LEAF outdoes the Bolt is in front-seat legroom. However, this less-than-an-inch of extra space up front can’t make up for its cramped back seat and lack of cargo capabilities. You’ll only get 30 cubic feet of cargo space and that’s if you sacrifice the rear row of seats.

Does the Bolt EV or the LEAF Have Better Tech?

Chevrolet Bolt TechnologyThe category in which the 2021 Chevy Bolt EV and the 2021 Nissan LEAF are most comparable is technology. Both models offer a spectrum of driver-assistance features, including available collision avoidance technology, automatic braking, and camera systems providing a 360-degree view.

How you interact with these features in both models differs drastically, though. The Chevy offers a standard 10.2-inch touchscreen display with its Chevy Infotainment System, providing a much clearer view of what your camera is picking up than the LEAF’s standard 7-inch screen. Opting for the available 8-inch option won’t do you much better either.

Plus, the Bolt cinches any additional blind spots possible with the available Rear Camera Mirror, which turns the surface of your rearview mirror into a screen projecting a livestream of what’s behind you.

2021 Chevy Bolt EV vs Nissan LEAF: Which One?

As you can see, the 2021 Chevy Bolt EV outdoes the Nissan LEAF in every comparable way. If you’d rather a longer range, more spacious cabin, and a wider variety of technology features, we at Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet think the Bolt is the obvious choice.

But don’t take our word for it! Come down to our dealership and take this model for a test drive around Columbus, Grove City, and Dublin.
